From urban centers to small villages throughout Israel, new communities and ways of learning are blossoming and expanding. Dani Segal will discuss current, exciting, and innovative developments of new Batei Midrash (Houses of Study) and the growing ‘Tzibur’ (community) in Israel today, examining how and why a wide spectrum of Israelis are finding new entry points back into the world of study and tradition, reclaiming their historical narratives with great excitement and a joyous sense of renewal.

Dani Segal is the Community Rabbi of the Yishuv Alon – a heterogeneous Israeli community committed to secular-religious coexistence. He is a founding member of Ein Prat Academy of Leadership, an educational secular-religious program for pre and post army participants, and is the founder and director of Desert Premarital Retreats- specializing in communication in marriage. He attended the Hesder Yeshiva, Har Etzion and served in the IDF as a paratrooper. He has a BA in Hebrew Literature from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, rabbinic ordination from the office of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, and is pursuing an MA in Hebrew Literature from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has taught in Drisha’s June Kollel and continuing education programs.

Drisha is excited to be part of the Upper West Side Celebrates Israel convened by The JCC in Manhattan in collaboration with and funded by UJA-Federation of New York.
