New World Stages
The only living Non-Japanese Master
of the very Japanese art of RAKUGO Comic Storytelling!
New World Stages – 340 West 50th Street, New York NY 10019
With a minimal set, Katsura Sunshine’s Rakugo features a lone storyteller dressed in a kimono, kneeling on a cushion, and using only a fan and a hand towel for props, as he entertains the audience with a comic monologue followed by traditional story-telling.
Recently the emcee of the G20 in Osaka, Katsura Sunshine, often called the “King of Kimono Comedy,” has brought the tradition of Rakugo to Times Square! Rakugo is the 400-year-old Japanese traditional art of comic storytelling.
A star of NHK Worldwide, he is charming, universally funny and yet so very Japanese, the perfect performer to bridge the gap between the East and the West, in hilarious fashion.
