What is a community’s responsibility for unsolved crimes committed in its environs? Which people are best suited to be soldiers? What protocols should be followed when an Israelite army goes to battle? We will explore these questions through our study of chapters 8 and 9 of Masechet Sotah. We will use rishonim, achronim, responsa, and halachic codes as well as modern Israeli and American law to further explore these issues. We will employ both traditional and literary approaches and make use of manuscripts.
