My favorite quick & dirty dvar torah about Succos is you can tell what is a halachically kosher succah by the shape of the hebrew letters that make up the word SUCCAH –  Samech  (Four walls) Chaf (Three Walls)  Hay (2.5 Walls) all of these work as Kosher succos! (For more details about how the Vuv works please speak to your local daf yomier about using a little “dofen akuma” and  “luvud” magic).

Most people know the basic rules about succah walls, not putting it under trees, not being too high up, seeing the stars, having some actual schach (more shade than sun). The schach issue was probably the most obvious and ubiquitous disqualifier of kosher succahs until the creation of the recent rollout bamboo schach cover – which is soooo not as cool as the days when we needed to go out side and spend 5 hours gathering random branches, dirty sticks, pines, leaves and other nature things that must inevitably fall into your soup.

Anyhooo this brings me to my post about this website:  www.sukkahsoftheworld.org

Check this baby out now – yes, this site has managed to gather the most awesome collection of the most random unexciting succahs from across the globe…I'm talking boring central. But it is entertaining since there are some really really awesome succahs that just scream 1983.  Goodtimes.

To make this site a lil more exciting – here is your challenge: test your halachic prowess now and go through the gallery and let us know when you spot any posul succahs, or any that have noteworthyness –  Good luck banging that out and have a Chag Samayac
