Top 10 Similarities between the Stanley Cup playoffs & Shavuos
by adam tyberg
10. Both 7 weeks of counting Sefirah & innumerable weeks of playing NHL
playoff season are long & drawn out.
9. Canadian accents sound about as strange to us as yeshivish talk, eh?
8. When you are in the overtime mode, you are exhausted but push yourself to
go till you see the light
7. You've made it this far (counting omer, playoffs series) now it's a night
for the cup
6. Big celebration when each are over, you either say champion, or 'say
cheese' (cake).
5. There's a whole megillah's (Ruth) worth of Stanley Cup lore that provides
hours of Shavous night batulla
4. When both are done, you stand in line to shake hands with pride
3. We wish the rabbi's drasha was as short as NHL Commisioner Gary Bettman's
speech.
2. For some reason, both NHL players & Rabbis are blessed with good
looking wives, despite such possible
physical turn-offs such as missing teeth (hockey) & extremely long beards
(rabbinate).
1. . When each are over the participants can finally shave their beards.
