Aside from the typical and required discussions about 1) 80's tv shows 2) roommate being bitchy 3) dating website  – a common debate at shabbos tables from 96th st to 72nd st is the need for a doorman on the Upper West Side. What are they good for aside for gossip, laundry drop off/delivery and someone to monitor your  in and out "night life" timing. And trust me, they know everything about shabbos, shidduch dating and their favorite: shalach manos.

Well apparently, your mother and father who said you need a doorman might have a point after 2 doormen saved a slew of people from a fire in a brownstone on 73rd st yesterday. Endri Brahimaj, 19, and Izet Neljkovic, 44, spotted flames and smoke coming from the top floor of 254 W. 73rd St. just after noon and ran into the building and knocked on every door saving everyone from the fast moving flames.

Lesson learned: Be sure to tip your doorman well this year – it may save your life (and keep him quiet about your extracurricular activites at night).
