The Jewish Community Center In Manhattan Announces: Seder Shabbang: Passover at the JCC Manhattan

WHO: JCC Manhattan, in partnership with Moatza, Lab/Shul, The Gefilteria, and OneTable, is offering New Yorkers a whole new way to celebrate Passover. Building on the success of its monthly dinner series, Shabbat Shabbang, the JCC is offering Seder Shabbang, a multi-seder and after-party experience. Generously subsidized by anonymous funders as well as foundation dollars, Seder Shabbang brings four unique seders to the community: a Hebrew speaking Israeli seder led by Moatza as part of its 100 Chair initiative; Wise, Wicked, Simple and Without Words, a 20s + 30s seder led by Dan Ain of the cutting-edge Because Jewish; a traditional community seder for our observant guests and those who like a more conventional experience; and a music and storytelling seder led by Lab/Shul innovators Amichai Lau-Lavie and Naomi Less.

WHAT: With crowds of nearly 400 people expected, the JCC is proud to offer the same high-quality experience constituents have come to expect from Shabbat Shabbang. The community will enjoy delicious kosher-for-Passover food from gourmet caterers Simply Divine, and the best wines. They will also relish the signature programs offered by musicians, artists, celebrity bartenders, brilliant spiritualists, and more. Seder Shabbang offers those people without a strong Jewish social circle the opportunity to have a significant Jewish experience with Passover rituals and high-quality Jewish-themed programming in an intimate setting. And for the nonaffiliated and non-synagogue-affiliated it is an opportunity to experience Jewish communal celebration.

After the seders, all our guests will come together in two Shabbangs. The first is a family after-party in the lobby with dessert and coffee, play areas for children, great performers, and Passover-kit making. The second is an swanky adults-only rooftop, soiree hosted by Liz Alpern of the Gefilteria. Expect a party vibe with themed Passover cocktails and unexpected delights like palm readers and henna artists.

For the past five years, the JCC has welcomed the gift of Shabbat into the lives of so many who might otherwise have missed the experience with Shabbat Shabbang. With the addition of Seder Shabbang, our reach into the community will be even greater. Our fantastic seder partners will open the door to engaging new and more diverse participants, creating a home for a broad range of inspiring programming and community celebrations. Seder Shabbang will deepen Jewish connection and engagement, while bringing together the diversity of our community — from young to old, observant to secular, singles to families — to celebrate as one.
