In the Talmud, we are told that Chagai, Zacharya, and Malachi are the final people to receive prophecy. However, throughout rabbinic literature, the mysterious Bat Kol- usually assumed to be a heavenly voice- makes its presence known. What exactly is this Bat Kol, and why does it appear? Does the Bat Kol have the authority of God? Are the rabbis compelled to listen to it? We will explore a number of traditions about the Bat Kol to better understand the rabbinic perception of the boundaries, or lack thereof, between heaven and earth.
