In The Middle of the Night

(To the tune of Billy Joel's In the Middle of the Night)

By David Lederstein

In the middle of the night

Pharaoh running through the streets

To the house of Moses

Ready to admit defeat

He yelled to Moses, through the window

Take your people, young and old

Your men women and children

As your G-d has foretold

The firstborn of Egypt, you killed at midnight

From Pharaoh=s noble sons to the lowliest slave

They were smitten with their idols, hidden in their temples

Every single firstborn, even an unborn babe

In the middle of the night

The Israelites asked their neighbors

For gold, silver and clothing

For all their slave labor

They left with no provisions

Just some unleavened dough

On the fifteenth of Nissan

Thirty three hundred years ago

So on this very night, we celebrate

We eat bitter herbs and matzo, four cups of wine

Cause, G-d took us out, saved us from our plight

On this night we were freed, by the hand of the Divine

In the middle of the night

Something=s been stolen

I=m searching all over

For the Afikomen

It=s time to say the blessing

And then drink two more cups

But my Dad=s snoozing

It=s time to wake up

So let=s commemorate, the Paschal lamb we ate

During the time, the Holy Temple stood

And open up the door, let Elijah take a sip or more

And remember our redemption, and sing of G-d's good

In the middle of the night

Just finished the seder

Time to say goodnight

We'll see you later

In the middle of the night

Too much food and wine

I don't think I can

Walk a straight line

In the middle of the night
